I feel compelled to express my deep dissatisfaction with the Indian Consulate in Atlanta. My experience has been nothing short of frustrating, primarily due to the poor service and lack of assistance. The passport verification process is excruciatingly slow, and the staff seems unhelpful at best. The phone number is often unreachable, and unless I drive to their location, I struggle to get any answers—answers that are rarely helpful!
As someone whose parents are deceased and without any relatives back in India, I find myself in a particularly challenging situation. All my siblings live here in the U.S. and haven't visited India in over 25 years. This brings up a significant concern: how can I provide the necessary verification when I have no blood relatives back home?
The situation only worsens when dealing with the verification processes in India. The police verification department seems to go around in circles, and it often feels like the only way to expedite the process is by handing over money. This experience has led me to reconsider my options, and I am seriously thinking about applying for a U.S. passport instead.
It's disheartening to see how cumbersome and complicated maintaining an Indian passport has become due to these ongoing hassles. I believe this is a significant reason why many people struggle to keep their Indian passports active. I sincerely hope the consulate can improve its processes and provide better support for individuals in similar situations.

I needed a emergency visa for my son and it was Friday so in hurry applied to a random website but once they took the payment their was no response ......and while searching on google I got lucky to get number of Indian consulate of Atlanta and I had the pleasure of working with an amazing person with whome I couldn't be more impressed with the level of service and professionalism provided.
They helped me with an emergency visa and I was able to travel to India within 24 hours. Please be aware of third party websites and go directly with the Indian embassy website. They are AMAZING.
They made the visa application process much smoother than I expected by clearly explaining each step. Thank you Indian Consulate Atlanta

Had to share my experience with consulate of India, Atlanta. as they helped us when we needed the most. I had to take emergency visa for my newborn and the process was very smooth and that too over a weekend. All I had to do was give them a call and within couple of hours I had his visa in hand. I even forgot to take the application form, they were able to find and print it for me.
Keep up the good work.

I had applied for a fresh passport, as my minor passport was about to expire and I needed a new 10 year passport.
I sent in my application only to be told after the fact that I needed extra documents not mentioned on the checklist. I sent those, only to be told I was missing a signature. The thing is, I had signed it, and now my application is on hold. I had paid seperately for tatkal as I needed my passport immediatley.
I called the emergency number only to be met by rudeness from the receiver.
Absolutely horrible service.
Edit:
I've been calling them since they opened this morning (28/10/24) and no one has been picking up my calls, I've been experiencing this issue for the past 1 week.

This is one of the rare reviews I am so happy to write. Even after showing up to the embassy and ignorant of what needed to be done, Mr. Amit Gandhi went above and beyond to help us. He patiently and graciously guided us through our paperwork and made sure our work was completed. He assured us he would finish our time sensitive work and even followed up beyond after hours to put our anxiety at ease. We are impressed by his dedication and efficiency and grateful to the Consulate. Every organization should clone Mr. Amit Gandhi and learn customer service from him. Thank You so much for making this is so headache free and pleasant.

I don't typically leave reviews, but my recent experience with the Indian Consulate in Atlanta was so extraordinary that I feel compelled to share it.
Yesterday, I visited the consulate with my sister, fully believing we were prepared to have our documents signed by the Consul General. Upon arrival, a kind and welcoming gentleman asked about our purpose. After explaining, we quickly realized we weren’t as prepared as we thought. However, the officer we interacted with was nothing short of incredible—courteous, professional, and exceptionally helpful. He patiently provided us with step-by-step guidance, explaining what we needed to do. Instead of simply directing us to the online forms, he went above and beyond by walking us through every part of the process. His professionalism, clear communication, and patience made what could have been a stressful situation an absolute breeze. I was genuinely impressed. I believe his name is Mr. Amit Gandhi.
We had driven over two hours to the consulate, and the thought of making another trip in Atlanta traffic was daunting. But this compassionate officer kindly allowed us to return later in the day, even after their walk-in hours, ensuring we wouldn’t have to make another trip. To top it all off, he followed up with a phone call that afternoon to let us know our papers had been processed and that UPS Air had picked them up.
A special thank you to Mr. Amit Gandhi—you are truly amazing! Your dedication and kindness reflect so well on India, and it’s people like you who make the country proud.
The Indian Consulate in Atlanta went far beyond my expectations. They are nothing short of AMAZING. Thank you, Indian Consulate Atlanta!

We went there on a Friday to get proof of life for my parents. The gentlemen we met were courteous, kind, professional and respectful. When asked about how to get an OCI card for myself and my sibling they gave clear step by step directions. If the two gentlemen (I believe one of them was Mr Patel) who helped us are reading this, many thanks!

I am not a person who generally gives reviews, but this experience of mine has been so exceptional that I am here to give one. My case was that of an emergency, and I have been attended very well by the people at The Consulate General of India, at Atlanta. My concerns had been priorly addressed through the contact numbers provided, and I was in depth told about all the procedures that were meant to completed by me. I can for sure, approve of the fact that they have walked an extra mile to render care and aid in the most professional, wise, and honest manner. I for sure, know that I was at home even when miles away and thanks to hardworking and dedicate staff at the office.
