I used to believe that a Strata Property Management Company would ensure that the Strata council enforced the bylaws. Not so at AbbeyLane in Parksville. For the past 1 1/2 years dogs have been allowed to run off leash on common property and one dog has twice run out in front of my car. Owners are allowed to hang all sorts of tacky stuff off the common property fence and one owner has even installed an 8 foot long shelf in order to add even more potted plants to common property. I’m surprised the gardeners even attempt to cut grass around this unit because it is littered with plant pots and solar light posts. Now they are adding a section of fence turning common property into limited common property. Approval to do that requires a 3/4 vote by owners according to the SPA. Council members have no clue and seem to like it that way. The Strata Property Act is readily available online for all to read. My letters of concern to Alliance are pretty much ignored. Maintenance issues are growing and there is very little money in the contingency fund which council seems to feel is a reason to do nothing. This is a scary situation for me who has everything tied up in home ownership here.
