I’ve lived in Chilliwack for over a decade, and the quality of garbage collection services has noticeably declined over the years. The staff from Emterra Environmental often appear visibly unhappy—like they’ve been pushed into doing a job they take no pride in. Whether it’s due to poor wages, low morale, or a complete lack of support from upper management, something is clearly wrong behind the scenes.

The office itself raises red flags—windows covered, no transparency, no way to speak with someone in charge, and zero accountability. It’s impossible to escalate complaints or get meaningful answers. As a local business owner, I rely on consistent and professional waste services. Yet, I’ve repeatedly seen garbage and compost bins left behind for arbitrary or made-up reasons—“too heavy,” “not the right compost,” or simply “not our job.” But you are being paid to do this. What exactly is the standard here?

I’m seriously questioning how this company is allowed to continue operating like this, with no oversight. If we’re paying for a public service, there needs to be responsibility and pride in the work being done. I urge the City of Chilliwack to review Emterra’s contract and push for a complete management shake-up, or better yet, seek a new provider who actually values the people doing the work—and the community they serve.

This isn’t just about trash—it’s about standards, work ethics, and the direction our city is heading in.

I’ve been so impressed with the consistent, reliable service from our local garbage company. Pickups are always timely, the routes are handled with care, and the staff is courteous and professional. I especially want to recognize Amber—her dedication stands out. She's friendly, dependable, and always goes the extra mile to ensure our neighborhood is clean and taken care of.

Too often, the hard work of public works employees goes unnoticed or underappreciated. But people like Amber remind us just how essential these roles are to keeping our communities running smoothly. Thank you to Amber and the entire team for everything you do—you truly make a difference every day.

We have had MULTIPLE issues in the past few months with Emterra. The worst was when Emterra called my elderly mother and gave her heck for contacting the city when a can was missed. Shame on them! We need a new company once there contract is up next year.

Horrible! Every time we put our garbage bins out they sticker our bins and refuse to take the garbage, I know and understand there is a weight restriction. But our bins aren't heavy at all. We had one bag in the bin because of them constantly leaving our bin we've had to do many dump runs. Called them this morning to talk to customer service. Only to be sworn at and told she doesn't care to hear how my 6 yearold can pick up the garbage bin with garbage in it. HORRIBLE customer service, would rather stick with paying to go to the dump then have to deal with Emterra!

This review is in regards to the recycling depot attendant at Bailey Landfill. I've never been spoken to in such a rude manner on not one but two occasions. Not sure what her power trip is all about but she shouldn't be dealing with the public!

Awful company! Incredibly rude. Lazy drivers. Leave garbage thrown all over the road. Claim your bins are late when you bring them curb side while they are at your house. My complex has an old fat driver with little man syndrome. Could use the extra few steps to grab the bins.

I wish I could leave a 0 star about this location because they're incompetent and ignorant in their office. Some drivers are nice and respectful but it's like they hire whoever without any kind of interaction. I've never been so annoyed by a company before. One driver gave my mother the middle finger because she asked them to not throw our garbage bin. They continuously leave the bins in the middle of the street or upagainst our vehicles and today your office woman hung up on my husband because he didn't understand why our garbage wasn't picked up. All because their drivers were too lazy to walk around a vehicle that was parked in front of the bins. Even though the recycling and compost never had an issue.

I accidentally locked my keys inside my van near this place, and I decided to request some help from their staff. A very nice woman named Amber was able to call me a tow truck to unlock the doors for me. She didn't seem agitated at all that a complete stranger interrupted her morning, and didn't hesitate in providing assistance. Thank you for the help Amber, I am glad to see the quality of kindness is not yet extinct in our society.
