Hastings Appraisal got us booked in right away on a time schedule that worked well with us. Matt came out and was very friendly, informative and explained the process and talked with me through out the entire time he was there. Made me feel comfortable and good. I had a disappointing experience with Matt Ponshtein, the owner of this business. My mortgage advisor ordered an appraisal on Friday, Jan10th. Matt visited the property on Monday, Jan 13th, and was expected to deliver the report within 24 hours. However, even by Friday, Jan 17th, the closing date, the report was not delivered.
Attempts to reach the business were equally frustrating. The phone number on the card redirected to a voicemail for Ms. Courtney, the office manager, who did not return calls despite numerous attempts by both my mortgage advisor and me. Multiple emails were sent by the mortgage advisor, and even after the invoice was paid, there was no response or update.
This lack of communication caused significant stress and jeopardized the timely completion of the transaction. If this is the level of service provided, I would caution others against working with this appraiser. Timely responses and professional communication are crucial in this line of work, and unfortunately, those expectations were not met.
I would not recommend this appraiser to others.

Here is my response after receiving feedback from Hastings Appraisal Services.

Thank you for your response. However, I must respectfully disagree with some of the points you made. While I understand that you typically state a 3-5 business day delivery window for reports, this timeline was exceeded. The appraisal was conducted on Monday, January 13th, and as of Friday, January 17th—the closing date—I still had not received the report. No rush was requested because the timeline provided should have been sufficient for a standard delivery.

Additionally, while you mentioned that Matt was in "constant contact" with my mortgage broker, this is not accurate. Despite numerous attempts by both my mortgage advisor and myself to reach your office—through phone calls, voicemails, and emails—no meaningful updates or communication were provided. The lack of responsiveness added unnecessary stress and confusion to an already time-sensitive process.

Because of this delay, my transaction could not be completed on time, resulting in significant financial consequences. My previous lender will charged me $2,201.56 on January 18th, and I now face additional interest charges and double payments to both my previous and new lenders for this month. This situation has caused undue frustration and financial burden, and I am still left waiting until Monday, January 20th, to resolve this matter.

Timely communication and adherence to stated timelines are critical in this line of work, and unfortunately, these standards were not met in my experience. I hope this feedback helps improve your service for future clients, but as it stands, I cannot recommend your business based on my experience.
