An absolutely BRUTAL experience that ended up with Gloria making threats, harassing us via text, and being the most unprofessional property manager I have ever encountered, right down to mocking my wife for having to camp with her van in Victoria during the week while she works a new job. (We live in Nanaimo, and the new job requires relocation, which is what put us in contact with Gloria in the first place)
She's pushy, rude, uses high pressure tactics to get you to sign a lease, has zero tolerance for questions or requests for clarification. She demands a lot but gives nothing. She's duplicitous, and even poses as her own employer, writing positive reviews and responding to them in the third person. She manipulates her reviews and responses to boost her Google reviews and rating and bury the multiple negative reviews.
She approached us on Facebook after we'd inquired and passed on the property. After a bit of back and forth which involved her pushing us to prioritize her in EVERY way, and reschedule our whole day around making her needs first (by making it seem like she'd just give the place to someone else if we couldn't accommodate her), we agreed to drive down and look at the property the following day. She couldn't be bothered to attend the viewing and had the current tenant show us the property (despite the poor lady having family and friends visiting and packing her stuff) so a lot of the questions we would have asked during a viewing had to be done via texts and emails as we went through the process. Which would have been fine if Gloria didn't view questions as a nuisance and attribute them to stall tactics. We hadn't even gotten HOME yet, and she was texting and calling us for an answer.
We never met her, knew nothing about her and thus, we were being cautious. She doesn't like or tolerate cautious and gets offended and takes it personal when we take a bit of extra time to make sure we aren't getting scammed. We don't get to know anything about her, but she gets copies of our passports, tax returns, financial records, employment history, bank statements - everything that a property manager needs - but ALSO everything scammers try to get too. She shows NO patience for people trying to protect themselves. She's a "property manager", but when asked to manage, field questions, or to explain how a process works, she gets pissed off. She expects people to know everything, and doesn't like having to do her job and work with clients to find a home.
Less than 24 hours after sending us the lease, she lost her temper on me and started yelling at me on the phone, speaking over me and not allowing me to get a word in because I hadn't signed it. I had to hang up on her because she was that pissed off and rude. Even if she needed the lease signed and the deposit sent by noon as she stated, she started in with the high pressure BS at 11 am.
So, literally, in the last hour, we lost a place to live and the owners lost out on great tenants because she couldn't be patient, and interprets anything but blind , unconditional fealty as an affront to her business and reacts by putting the screws to you, pressuring you sign documents regardless of what YOU - the renter - needs. And to top it all off, she then threatens to disclose the private information she's gathered about you as a means to intimidate and harass.
I am currently waiting for a callback from the BCFSA and their Practice standard advisors. Being a terrible person isn't worth a complaint, but the threats, harassment and unprofessionalism is. I plan on pursuing this with relentless drive, as this woman is either a con artist, or just terrible at her job. Either way....
I really don't think asking for 24 hours from the time you get the lease agreement to signing it and returning it with the deposit is too much to ask. My wife and I wanted a chance to read it and understand it and that was absolutely unacceptable to Gloria. As I type this, it's 3:18 pm. If Gloria had just been a professional & stopped with the games, she's have a deposit and signed lease by now.
