LA office hasn't posted their list of public holidays closures for 2024. Keep checking website for appointment openings. There is limited short term parking out front.
Check in at the lobby desk to get a pass to allow you to use the elevators. Consulate staff was helpful. Get your passport photo at Photo Experts on Wilshire Blvd. Photos were rejected from CVS, UPS and FedEx.

I will start with a huge thank you to Milena, Consular Officer at the LA Consulate. At a difficult time with my passport disappearing whilst at LA airport trying to depart, I could not have asked for a better experience. Milena was extremely helpful, polite and expedient. I had a new passport in 24hrs, yes 24hrs. Thank you!!!!! Friends of other nationality were amazed that it could be done so efficiently.
I did get to witness first hand other Australian's in a similar situation not treating Milena with respect, even though she was doing everything she could to help them. Please treat the Consulate staff with respect, they are there to help.
So grateful to be Australian.

Fantastic service and very helpful staff! They sorted out my emergency passport in a few hours (less than an hour if you consider the time difference with Australia)

As an Australian citizen, I’m very disappointed in this consulate. My parents and I came here to vote for the referendum today - we looked up on the website prior to coming in that there was no closures due to public/federal holidays and checked the opening hours (it said the consulate was open). However, when we arrived to vote, the door to the consulate was open but no one was at the desk, with no notice/communication whatsoever in the consulate that they were in fact closed. We also tried calling in prior to coming in but no one was available to answer the phone. I would hate to see how this consulate would handle a crisis for any Aussie citizens abroad.

Don’t even bother trying to make an appointment at the Denver office. They book up within 30 seconds every single week (I had two phones trying to book and by 12:31 we were booted out as the time slot was taken). What’s the point of offering passport services in Denver with zero chance of getting an appointment? The LA staff were inhospitable and completely lacking empathy. The booking system is incredible flawed and needs to be fixed.

Plus 5* for the guy that flew through my renewal. It took longer in the elevator than the actual interview.
Minus 4*. Only available spot was 3 months away. Thinking it's going to be busy. I arrive 30 mins early. When I arrive there is no other people there, takes 2 minutes to renew a passport. In, out, done.
Why Aus Consulate is there such a wait and process for a 2 minute job?
What is the point of the appointment when there is no line ups or people waiting? Please get your stuff sorted and make this easier for fellow Aussies that have to select a minimal selection of "appointments" and have to travel interstate for a 2 min job.

Amazing!! We arrived 9 minutes before our 2pm appointment and she (not sure of the girls name......red head and super nice!!)
was welcoming and super efficient! In and out in 9 mins!
Because we were early it was really nice sitting in the court yard outside the building. Lots of seating in almost a park situation with loads of restaurants lining it.

A very strong attitude from the lady with the strong Portuguese or Brazilian accent. She was unhelpful and very rude. Apart from several sighs, I got no guidance whatsoever from her. Also, there is no appointments available to renew passports until August 2022. You will have to buy flights first, send your itinerary to the Consulate and and hope for them to “squeeze” you in. Top notch service! (Sarcasm)
