This is the second year of this company has done my taxes. I went to them because I used to use the tax preparer whose company it was before. Last year, my taxes were not ready until the very last day despite my having brought the documents a month before. I had to chase them down and then I paid a fine Because I could not get to the bank that same day. When I spoke to them about my concerns, this year, they promised me it would be better.
Unfortunately, this year was even worse. They didn’t do part of my taxes, which I did not realize until I got the Taxes home. No one answers the phone after repeated calls over several days and when I mentioned it to the secretary, she said oh yeah we don’t check that “so I finally went in to have them do the rest of my taxes. I had already paid in full, and then when he went to do the other part of my taxes, it changed the first part which they had already filed. The whole thing over there is a disaster. I spoke to the man whose name is in the title and he told me that they had sold it to another company. I told him it was a mess and he told me if he was me he would go elsewhere. Too late for that now, but please know this is not a reputable company to rely on.

Charles Ghadban and Assoc. bought Sheppard and Assoc. in Kemptville, where we had a great tax accounting relationship for nearly 20 years. However, Ghadban’s staff sat on our tax file without action for ages, repeatedly promising to return our calls but repeatedly failing to do so, causing us to be late on what would have been a relatively simple filing. No meaningful communication from them, though it seems they never started despite assurances that the file was in progress. (They eventually claimed we had to contact CRA to give them permission, but CRA said it was their responsibility to do so if there was a problem with authorizations). It seems like they were stalling. If they couldn’t handle our file, the honourable thing would have at least let us know what was possible or not possible. Instead they kept us hanging and made our position with CRA more stressful. This is an irresponsible, poorly managed company. Clients beware.

I’m sorry to say me and my wife have had a terrible experience with this firm. Because of their ignorance with late filing, we now have to endure with their late filing we will now be out of pocket by $8000. This was even after continuous reminders and requests to see where our filing was at.

It’s really terrible that the accountant in charge of our account will not return our calls or emails. We call almost every day and get “he is sick, he is busy, he is not in”.

When being overseas we believed we had found a great firm that could be trusted, we prepaid for the service and it has been a one star rating ever since.

We will not let this situation lie, it is too much money for us to loose. We will continue to try and resolve it and I hope our reviews may finally a trigger a response from the senior partner accountant who is “managing” our file.

Update as of March 2024: I left this firm as they charged me so much to file it almost crushed my small business before I ever made a profit. Upon switching to a new accountant they were shocked at the cost that I paid to have my personal and corporate taxes done. There were also claims mistakenly made and now I am in a sticky situation of having to have my new accountant fix errors. A disappointing revelation but a good lesson to learn early. I echo what another low rating states that they do make you sign an engagement letter that generally says the accuracy is not their responsibility. Take from that what you will.

I stand by what I said regarding the patience, understanding and professionalism of Charles and Josephine but I can't say the same for some of the Tax advisors I had to work with.

I am a small business owner and very new to understanding tax strategy. Charles was recommended to me two years ago and I have never looked back. I recommend him and his team to everyone I know because he was so patient and knowledgeable in helping me plan my incorporation in a way that would help my business ensure it could help my family too.

Jospehine is an amazing admin who always was very kind to me and answered my questions so quickly. There was never a time I was with Josephine or Charles that I felt I was asking a silly question. They took time to understand my dreams, goals and explained how tax planning can make it a reality.
