There were numerous short comings I experienced of the 'Cheshire Homes' personal support worker program:

1. English As A Second Language
The 2 workers sent to help me were asking me to explain words commonly used.

2. Burning Oatmeal To The Bottom Of A Pot
I asked a personal support worker to prepare my morning oatmeal. She didn't pay attention while she had my stove on. The oatmeal was seriously burned to the bottom of the pot.

3. Lack Of Attention To Detail
After receiving personal support worker help for several years my hours were cut and I was referred onto Cheshire Homes to cover these hours. The Cheshire Homes staff did not show any initiative to keep me safe while I transferred between my wheelchair and the shower, bed and reclining chair. This was in stark contrast to the personal support worker who had done so since his first day assisting me.

4. Responding In Shock And Surprise To The Effects Of My Chronic Pain
The Cheshire Homes personal support workers exhibited the same shock and surprise students taking the 'personal support worker' course at a local community college expressed when they saw the extent to which I suffer with chronic pain. Not only does this make me not trust them, but it also makes me question how they were able to graduate from the 'Personal Support Worker' course themselves.

5. The 'Cheshire Homes' Supervisor Lack Of Involvement
I asked the personal support worker supervisor to review my upcoming hip replacement surgery surgery post surgery restrictions with the personal support workers. This was not only refused, but made the decision to discharge me from their program because they are suppose to be "attendant care" (self directed). To me this is a message that the Cheshire Homes personal support workers are without accountability.

6. Similar Experiences With Other Clients
As part of the disabled population in Belleville we talk about the care we are receiving. I discovered I wasn't alone in this type of experience.

At this time I can't in good conscience recommend the 'personal support worker' program to you for the above reasons.

I am a client of Cheshire Homes and I am a big women who is parylized, and when they send me a litsy bitsy girl who has trouble with her Job description to come by to see me, I have to explain to her about what to do and how do it, I have called them a million times to get someone else who can help me. From my experience with them, I have to say that some great girls in the company and some of the girls need more training and development. 🤔🤔 But I give them a👍👍
