Darlene estimated $3,500-4,500 to do our relatively simple, though admittedly cross-border taxes. They charged $10,500 to do so in the end — a clear bait and switch — making up all kinds of excuses for why that was the case, and claiming that this was at 'a significant discount'. They took FOUR MONTHS to respond to emails that were outside of peak tax filing season, and their advice was incorrect and problematic. They also tried to charge $1,200 for a 20-minute phone call after the four months of waiting — though they eventually waived this fee after I complained about it.

After all that, they made several egregious errors that we had to have another accountant fix.

They are either fraudulent (and you pay for it) or incompetent (and you pay for their inability to do work properly in a reasonable amount of time) or both. Either way, you are going to pay for it.

I would've paid more than the $10,500 that they borderline fraudulently charged me to not have to deal with their incompetence.

For reference, we found someone else this year and our taxes — with the exact same structure and (low) complexity cost $1,575 to prepare. They were perfect, easy, and all issues were clearly communicated.

Absolute terrible customer service. I'd give no stars if I could. I chose Baker Tilly to file my US taxes. There was a complete lack of communication from the beginning. Baker Tilly prepared my Canadian return without my asking and then claimed they waived a bunch a fees and still provided me with a disproportionately high bill for the services provided. I was strung along to almost the very end of the October 15 extended US expat filing deadline without an explanation. My inquiries were met with vague reasons for the delays. The lack of communication required Baker Tilly to double their efforts - from preparing my Canadian return which I did not want, to having to re-prepare forms for signature. I'll be going with HR block expat services next year. Stay away at all costs.

Worked with Michael Brown for my 2020 taxes. I was much later than I expected due to unforeseen personal circumstances and even though it was quite last minute, he was able to successfully meet the tax deadline. Really great communication and our intro call was very informative and helpful.

Contacted regarding cross border tax issues. After initial phone consult, which was to my liking, unable to get response to several emails and one phone call over the course of several weeks. Non response, or late response, is exactly what one does not want in a tax specialist. Go elsewhere.
