Things with this company did not work out.
I saw previous reviews and felt the engagement letter they wanted me to sign was like a blank cheque, as there was no mention of fees/costs in it. I did amend the letter they wanted me to sign, so I dont get surprised about pricing down the track. They didn’t want to work with me after that which is ok.

They prepared my taxes at great expense and did not provide enough detail on a capital loss so the Feds kept 10K. No follow up on their part and when I asked them to rectify it they charged me almost 1000 more, and they still didn’t do it right. No follow up on this either. I ended up dealing with CRA myself. Just a phone call to discuss with them and they hit me with another invoice. Ridiculously expensive, don’t follow through, and take no accountability for their work - actually get aggressive with you on calls. Would give them zero stars if I could. And the CRA still has my money almost 4 years later.

Edited to respond to “facts matter”. Yes they do. I did not transfer this issue to another firm, but I certainly went with another firm for subsequent years. This issue happened in the first place because your firm did not follow up on the filing and I found out about the address mix-up myself. And I have emails to demonstrate you were still involved when you advised me to deal with the CRA myself because it was cheaper (which is precisely why I submitted the materials myself). There’s a reason why your firm has multiple negative reviews. Instead of posting responses that only make you look bad, perhaps a review of your work practices would help your ratings.

I was told a retainer was going to be requested before starting work and invoicing would be between 325 and 400CAD per hour for a senior accountant. Nothing was said about an initial consulting fee.

The initial meeting lasted about an hour. Afterwards I was preparing papers to send off to them for them to able to provide me with an estimate and start on the work. This took a bit longer than expected. All of a sudden I received a 562.38CAD invoice. They charged me 400CAD/h for the initial consult + some admin fee.

I asked them if this was a mistake, their response was they rendered me a service so I have to pay. This was the only accountant company that I contacted that works this way. (also contacted MNP, Tax(ad)Vise Airdrie, Robert R. McDonald and some others I don’t remember). They all were upfront about invoicing and initial consult fees.

I ended up paying the invoice but not retaining their service since their lack of transparency / professionalism.

If you want to be charged a LOT of money per form not per hour... and basically do all the work yourself... go to them.

Editing in response to "we don't charge by form" ---Not true. Tell me you don't charge for an F-Bar form. We paid tons to have them file our US taxes and they even made a mistake when filing?! Definitely stay away.

Very knowledgeable and professional, pleasure to work with. Prices are fair and competitive and really depend on complexity of your tax situation, which is understandable. Already recommended to my friends and will be back next year.

I would not recommend this company. I used them because I had to file both Canadian and US tax forms and was not sure about the details. Their service was expensive and my filed tax forms even had some mistakes.
