I lost my passport and felt stranded in the US as an international student. After an exhausting night of tossing and turning, I finally called the office with several questions and was greeted by an extremely rude lady, “Fatou” who painstakingly answered my questions with an exasperated tone. During times her voice was getting muffled, and thus I would ask her to repeat something for clarity. Instead of politely repeating, she took a stern and constantly annoyed tone as me asking to repeat makes me an unintelligent person

This is the kind of support they have hired in this office for Canadians in distress. Very very disappointing!

Today April 3rd 2024. A call was placed as I was seeking information related to the 6 month passport rule, by passed the automated system and was "greeted by" an arrogant, pompous man who questioned the validity of my question in a smug manner. Normally, I would let it go yet his voice increased in tone which further escalated the ordeal. Can't possibly tell you the rage felt! I asked for his name he refused to provide. He proceeded to transfer me to the call center without any hint of answering my question. Yet, I in turn called back from another number decided to hang up after the layers of automated jargon. Guess who called back? This individual, who recognized my voice I"m sure and hung up. If this indicative of how a born Canadian is to be treated while asking for accurate information we are in a said state of affairs.

I would like to give huge compliments to the staff and management that helped my wife and I out last week. My carry-on brief case bag was snatched off a luggage cart in a very busy and crowded Miami airport leading into a Canadian and US long weekend. Inside that bag was not only some important electronics, but my medication and passport. If we weren't able to get a passport replacement before the close of the day Friday, we would have been stuck in Miami until at least the following Tuesday, and perhaps even longer. Josee, the staff member we dealt with could see the stress in our faces, especially in light of the situation that we had endured the evening before. She and her manager worked diligently on expediting the temporary passport which we received later that same day. Additionally, she referred us to an in house counsellor to discuss the medication needs, and offer options on how we could go about replacing them. We were delighted with the result, but more so pleasantly surprised with how compassionate, and empathetic someone could be with us, as we worked through a myriad of emotions. Hopefully anyone reading this will never need to use the services of the Miami Canadian Consulate, otherwise it means that they are dealing with an extreme situation. If however one was to encounter such a situation, they can rest assured that they will be treated with the utmost respect, kindness and empathy one could expect to receive. Thank you for all you have done for us.

The gentleman working at the front office when I was there was exceptional, and made the horrifying experience of losing a passport much less daunting.
