Terrible management at 33 Isabella St.
âą Still havenât received my refundable key/fob deposit after moving out July 31, 2025.
âą Tried to charge me $700 in bogus fees until I pushed back.
âą On-site manager was rude and unprofessional, humiliating my partner.
âą Emails and follow-ups are ignored.
If you move here, expect hidden charges, ignored complaints, and trouble getting your money back.

If you are thinking of renting an apartment from Cromwell then RUN AWAY. Here are the reasons:
1. Biased towards non-white people and and they judge if you could really pay the rent.
2. They expect that you pay the first and the last month rent and other charges ( key, garage key deposit) along with the rent application. Good luck withdrawing the application before they approve for genuine reasons and getting refund. DO NOT PAY THEM any rent or deposit until they approve your application. It took us 4 months to get our money back and they also deducted $400 even when the application was never approved before our withdrawal. It was also not mentioned in the agreement.
3. Very unprofessional team at their office including the Account and leasing team. Try calling their office and you will know how welcome they make you feel. We spent hours and hours on phone listening to their unprofessional statements.
To sum up please do not rent from them.

If you are planning on renting with Cromwell, the application process is very old school. I applied and rented for 2023. For most property management companies you can complete applications online, sign your lease/docs via DocuSign or other online platforms. With Cromwell you are expected to sign and hand in every document in person in hard copy, at least thatâs what was expected of me. I was able to send some things via email. But I still gave hard copies because my email would get âburiedâ by other emails. Which brings me to my next point. There seems to be only 1 realtor dealing with all Toronto properties. You can apply either through the superintendent of the building or that 1 realtor. Since there is only 1 realtor and most superintendents under Cromwell are also âold schoolâ, you have to be boarder line annoying/persistent if you want to complete an application, otherwise you will be forgotten! They are not the most organized, which I do think is due to the limited staff available. Any rental application process is stressful, but this company really needs to update their process.
When I moved into the unit I was renting, for the most part everything was fine for the first couple of months. I have two cats. one day I noticed they were staring at one of the base kitchen cabinets for a few hours. I didnât think much of it, until I saw something stick out, a mouse. I immediately informed my superintendent. He came in and duct taped the base board because there was no way to remove the drawer from the cabinet without creating any damage. I also didnât want to leave any traps inside because if I couldnât remove the mouse from underneath the cabinet, I didnât want a dead mouse rotting in there either. I donât know for sure how or where the mouse came from, my guess is when they were renovating, a hole was left underneath the cabinet (photos attached). Either way I didnât get any follow ups or hear from anyone about next steps. So I just accepted the duct taped base boards as is and never opened the bottom drawer.
Unfortunately a family emergency happened which required me to move back in with my parents. I was nervous about breaking the lease early. But I will say, Cromwell did let me break my lease early. I am appreciative of that. However, when I first signed the lease, I paid first and last months rent. I broke my lease after I paid rent that month, so I was informed that I would be reimbursed for that month (minus fees for breaking the lease) after my superintendent received my keys and confirms no damages were left in the unit. I waited two weeks after moving before I reached out to Cromwell asking when I can expect to get my cheque for August rent. When I spoke to the accounts team on the phone (Friday), they told me that they didnât receive the signed form and confirmation of me moving out from my superintendent. I lived in a studio apartmentâŠ. It does not take 2 weeks to check if there are damages in a 400 sq ft apartment, nor does it take 2 weeks to hand in a form confirming that I moved and gave back the apartment keys. The accounts team told me they were going to issue a cheque as soon as possible. I followed up 11 days since that phone call and asked for an update because I still didnât get a cheque in the mail. Cromwell informed me that the cheque was mailed the week before on Wednesday. For more context I moved to Oshawa, so it usually takes 3-5 business days for mail to be delivered from Toronto. I waited another few days, and still nothing.
Itâs been almost a month since moving out. Since the cheque was not delivered, I am now being told that I can pick up a cheque when itâs âreadyâ in approximately 1 week, during their business hours Wednesday - Friday 9am to 5pm. I work Mon-Fri from 9am to 5pm. I asked if they can send me a direct deposit, or e-transfer, or if I can pick up a cheque on Saturday. They said no. So, I have to take time off from work to pick up money that is owed to me, or wait another god knows how long for another cheque to be delivered. if you rent from Cromwell, rent with caution!

Edit: This is a so called pet friendly building, I saw it on their website and I already confirmed with the staff. Then they asked for a picture of my dog and told me NO.
They refused to rent the place to me because I have a dog. Theyâre discriminating against mixed breeds đ€·đŒââïžđ€·đŒââïžđ€·đŒââïžđ€·đŒââïžđ€·đŒââïž
I donât think itâs ethical and okay to refuse someone just because they have a dog. So FYI, I donât think you should tell them if you have a dog. They cannot evict you once you signed the lease.

Unprofessional, horrible, heartless management company ever existed in the world. They do not care about the tenants, and they are not happy with their jobs. You can tell from their tone that they absolutely hate service job, so I do not understand why they even work at the management company.
They never respond to your call. At least receptionist will pick up a call, but she is awfully rude and impatient. Once directed to property manager or accounting department, then no one responds. Even I left a massage to call me back, they will not. You have to call them again! And even if they respond this time, their attitude is the the worst. Garbage-level service!
Also, they decided to renovate the balcony before the COVID-19 pandemic, and took them almost one-and-half years to complete it. So I have to experience all the construction noises while I have to work from home!! This is extremely inhumane thing to do.
Furthermore, the room was unprofessionally finished and dirty, when I moved in to this room, but they expect us to clean the room before moving out? That sounds like a joke to me. They are lazy and do not want to do anything, and simply take money from the tenants.
The only good thing about this company is the superintendent for my apartment is very nice, hard-working and always dedicated to help the tenants.

I'm telling you now DO NOT get a house from these people! I have had to kill 10 mice in the span of 2 weeks! The building is infested with mice and bugs and plumbing issues and poor security to the point that packages are stolen regularly! My neighbor and I have even developed an intense allergic reaction with hers leading to an autoimmune disease which could all be caused by mold! To be determined! To sum it up stay the hell away from Cromwell management as they are the literal worst

This is truly a horrible management company. They do not care about their tenants. They started repairing our balconies last summer and then they messed up on the railings so we have no access to private outdoor space during a pandemic and they decided it was a good time to tear out every single inch of the property and jackhammer all summer long while we are confined to our apartments, working from home, with no balconies to enjoy fresh air in the evenings when the deafening construction finally ends for the day. We've finally been informed that the balconies will be completed at the very end of the summer. Making these choices during a global pandemic is inhumane and cruel and when tenants have complained they simply tell us to move out. They do not act in good faith and simply want to drive everyone out so they can renovate the apartments and increase the prices. I recommend finding a company that won't participate in ruthless tactics that purposefully destroy your well being.

Iâve lived in a Cromewell Management building up on Avenue Rd. for about four years now and I can say with confidence that they are a very good management company. Iâve had two landlords over that time and both are great at what they do and friendly to work with. The few times Iâve interacted with the staff at their offices theyâve been helpful and my apartment building is very well maintained. Even in the past when there have been issues with noise or smoking, theyâve handled it very quickly and with the utmost care. Iâve lived in six other apartments over the years and this is the first one I can see myself staying in for a long period and part of that is because its managed well so thank you to Cromwell.
