I recently had the pleasure of working with Kyle Coulombe, owner of Dynamic General Contracting, to supply and install a commercial-rated door for the mechanical room in my garage suite. From start to finish, the experience was exceptional.

We contacted Kyle, with Dynamic General Contracting to give us a price on a main floor renovation of our bungalow. He was one of six contractors invited to give us a quote, and from the minute he showed up, he struck us as very prepared and professional. Kyle gave us a realistic price, and worked with us to stick to our budget. He also worked with us to give us different ideas, and prices, when dealing with a very difficult main floor renovation.

Kyle's scope of work on our home included, the completion of the demolition of the main floor, including removal of poor subfloor, several walls, and the removal of the aluminum wiring. He then repaired the structural issues that were found, redirected furnace venting, installed new wiring and plumbing, and framed a new pantry. New insulation was installed where needed, drywall was installed on the walls, and ceiling, new flooring was installed throughout the main floor, as well as new pot lighting. The entire kitchen and upstairs bathroom were gutted, and redone with new cabinets, granite counter tops, and fixtures. The front door was replaced, the front concrete step was removed, and a deck was built on the front of the house. Stone work was also completed around the bow window on the front of the house.

Kyle prepared a very detailed contract with specifications along with the quote, and if any work was required outside of the agreed scope, it was discussed, approved, and a change order was issued prior to any additional work starting.

The subcontractors that worked with Dynamic General Contracting were exceptional. They were very professional, polite, and all had good ideas and input when it came to maximizing space, budget, or efficiency.

Given the complexity of the entire renovation, the work was completed in a timely manner. The only delay that affected the completion date was waiting for cabinetry to arrive, however, the final product installed in the house was well worth the wait.

We were very apprehensive going into this renovation, after having a poor experience with a different contractor that renovated our basement. Dynamic General Contracting changed how we felt about contractors in our home, and renovations in general. We would recommend Kyle and his team to anyone that is looking for a contractor to complete home renovations.

They always made sure to keep a tidy work area, which was much appreciated from our family of 5. Communication was easy and he was honest when there was something that didn't quite turn out right. We are very pleased with Kyle and his team, Raelle & Melvin, and their work on a series of major exterior renos on our 1910 home during summer and fall 2021. We’re happy we went with Kyle for this project, this was our first time hiring contractors for such a major project and we have no regrets with our choice.
We originally came to Kyle in early fall 2020, but like various things during 2020 the project didn’t proceed at the pace we expected. In the beginning we didn’t feel like we were kept in the loop well and Kyle provided us a number of timelines and expectations that he failed to meet as to when we would be getting started on the project. But once spring 2021 our project discussions began in earnest and we were able to kick off mid summer 2021.

This included; Replacement of the exterior siding and addition of exterior insulation. New door and window opening in one wall. Various window and door replacements. New roofed back deck and front stoop. Repair of foundation parging (although this was contracted out). Installation of an insulated garage foundation for a garage that we will be constructing ourselves. We didn’t have Kyle’s team do any interior work besides drywall patching and repair where openings were modified. He also took on various other repairs such as support for a sagging bay window and soffit repairs as needed.

We provided Kyle with a renovation drawing set drawn by myself (former residential draftsperson) which detailed most of what we wanted to do, so we weren’t seeking significant design input from Kyle’s team, but we were appreciative of the suggestions and modifications that he suggested, and we felt he explained and justified any modifications extensively and rationally, so we were happy to trust him and his opinions with our project, and a few things were modified by choice or necessity at this stage. Kyle provided detailed and flexible budget options that allowed room for expected problems and improvements (such an replacing woodchip insulation and reinstalling crooked windows), we ultimately came in below budget and were refunded the remaining amount.

Once Kyle’s team started the renovations they worked more or less flat-out on our project, and we were fully kept abreast of timelines and changes. Their work ethic is professional and we felt we could trust his team with our home and this project. Ultimately we were quite particular with many aspects of the project, and our 112 year old house and its many quirks provided plenty of stumbling blocks and unexpected things, but Kyle’s team was very accommodating of our issues and the non-standard methods our house often necessitates. It is important to note we were not seeking a “restoration” of this house, so we can’t evaluate that sort of work.

All in all Kyle treated us and our house well, and we’re very happy with the result. His efforts brought our designs into reality, and have brought our once run-down old house back to life. We could recommend him 100%.

We also had a specific budget in mind that the contractor (Kyle) was understanding of and did not try to push beyond that.
