I wish there was a negative star rating option...Avoid JDN at ALL costs. They take advantage of students who are unaware of their tenant rights. Tate and his team are untrustworthy, repairs are never done properly, and we have been lied to about different things.

I could go on for a long time with all the issues I've had with JDN and Tate, but I will speak about the main ones. Firstly, when we moved in, the house was extremely dirty, I don’t think the previous tenants or JDN made any effort to clean up before we moved it. One of our bathrooms had a serious mold issue, I have attached the pictures of the mold. We should have avoided the apartment completely but us being young students and excited to live together waved the condition of our apartment when we moved in. When I finally realized the celling was covered in mold not just the paint deteriorating, I contacted JDN about the Issue and Tate and JDN downplayed the issue. While at the same time me and a few of my roommates were having respiratory issues because of the air quality in the apartment due to the mold and lack of ventilation The following is the email response I got from Tate after expressing my concern over this serious health concern,

“The first thing I should point out is that it's almost certainly mildew and not mould. People see brown or black patches and assume the worst. I've been through this many, many times. It's almost certainly mildew. Resolved by simply cleaning. Additionally, most forms of mould are no more dangerous than the mould outside. The outside world is full of mould. Few moulds actually make you sick or have any adverse effect on the human body. In fact, many, are beneficial. People also tend to get sick for a lot of reasons, including 'self fulfilling prophesy'. We tend to convince ourselves of things with limited evidence, and our mind and bodies just run with it.” -Tate

Essentially, he was telling me that the black substance covering my bathroom was simply mildew and could be “beneficial” for me, the audacity amazes me still.

After this JDN sent painters to fix the “mildew issue” by planning to paint over it to hide the problem and told me that it had been inspected and wasn’t mold. I happened to be at the apartment the day they “inspected” the bathroom, and no one came in or out of that apartment, Tate blatantly lied to me that it had been inspected.

The apartment has structural issues, the metal railing on our balcony is not up to code and the deck is falling apart. Every time I contact JDN to fix something, it is never done property and ends up causing more of an issue the second time it breaks. Maintenance guy is very nice and pleasant but doesn’t do a very good job at repairs. At this point I’m surprised they are still in business as I have heard many other people having issues with JDN.

People have been extremely helpful and welcoming to us new tenants. Building is very well taken care of and clean. Very responsive and respectful maintenance and landlord.

A Nightmare Rental Experience at 190 Waterloo St.
I was initially drawn to 190 Waterloo St. due to its convenient location and the promising assurances from the rental agency. Despite the property's dilapidated exterior, I was assured that the interior would be thoroughly cleaned, painted, and maintained. Unfortunately, these promises were quickly broken.
Upon inquiring about the painting of the property, I was told that only necessary touch-ups would be done, a stark contrast to the initial agreement. This was a significant disappointment as I had expected a fresh and clean space.
Furthermore, the rental agency's handling of the move-in process was incredibly confusing. Despite being told that my rent would automatically be withdrawn from my account, I was informed at the last minute that I would need to wait for the payment to process before receiving the keys. This meant that my planned move-in on September 1st, a Sunday, was now uncertain.
To add insult to injury, the agency was previously asked who encouraged me to book a moving truck, assuming I could move in on the 1st. Now, I find myself in a precarious situation, potentially homeless for several days and facing additional expenses for movers, a rental truck, and temporary accommodations.
I strongly advise potential renters to:
* Document everything: Record your conversations with the rental agency and obtain written confirmation of all promises, especially regarding cleaning and painting.
* Plan ahead: If you are moving in on a weekend, ensure that your rent is processed well in advance to avoid delays in receiving the keys.
My experience at 190 Waterloo St. has been nothing short of a nightmare. The rental agency's broken promises and poor communication have caused me significant stress and inconvenience. I would not recommend renting from them under any circumstances.

i’ve lived in my condo rented to me by JDN for the past 4.5 years and it has been nothing short of amazing, they have a great team, very very sweet and understanding of life’s hardships when they arise, and very empathetic. i have absolutely loved my experience living here as well as dealing with them. this is the longest i’ve ever lived somewhere and i am very sad to be leaving, but hopeful sometime in the future i will be lucky to be rent from them again. thank you guys for everything the past few years, i will not forget it! ❤️

? Alert ? I would give a negative review as, my son signed a lease to rent a room, we put the deposit down, it was accepted (a month prior) and we had a move in date of August 1st established. Only to find out when my son followed up with the landlord to schedule a time to get the keys, he was told by Tate MacMillan (lead property manager): “

Yes, I’m sorry but we are not able to move forward. As I stated in my email to your son, the landlord has gone with a group he had found.

There is no contract in place as it was not signed by the landlord, JDN, or it’s representatives. Even with a signed lease, tenancies require vacant possession. Without vacant possession, there is no legal tenancy, as per the Residential Tenancies Act.”

They left the contract in limbo for over two weeks before they decided to go with the group. Only giving us a week to find housing.

They truly take advantage of students and their rights!!

The JDN Property group is an amazing and welcoming family filed with amazing and wonderful staff especially their property manager who is understanding and is willing to help and support you through anything and whatever you may go through while being and tenant of theirs. I would recommend JDN to anyone!! It’s has been really good the past few months I been apart of the family.
