Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Money

We were very excited to spend quality time with our family — cooking, barbecuing, and relaxing together for a 3-day getaway. Unfortunately, we ended up spending most of our time (and money) in the Village of Blue Mountain, eating at restaurants, because the cottage did not meet even the most basic expectations.

We rented Kandahar 141 (Misty Mountains Chalet) through Property Valet Blue Mountain, and let me start with the one and only positive thing about this property: its location is close to the village. That’s where the positives end.

From the moment we entered, we were greeted with a strong smell of mold and pet urine. While the bedsheets looked clean and white, we found bugs in several rooms — including earwigs, which we even found in the beds.

We tried to air the rooms out, but the windows had no screens, so we had to choose between the awful smell or being attacked by mosquitoes.

The furniture and carpet were old, stained, and disgusting. On our first morning, we tried to cook breakfast, but as soon as we turned on the stove, a horrible burnt smell filled the air — clearly, the stove hadn’t been cleaned in ages. Once again, we were forced to open the windows just to make the space breathable.

The basement — which contains three of the bedrooms — was a health hazard. There was visible mold and moisture everywhere. At one point, the air conditioner started leaking, soaking the carpet and basement floor. The whole basement smelled damp and unhealthy.

The layout of the cottage spans three floors: the basement (with bedrooms), a middle floor (with more bedrooms and bathrooms), and the top floor (kitchen and living area). The top floor was unbearably hot, forcing us to run the AC on high — which made the basement freezing cold and even more humid.

I won’t even go into detail about the hot tub, which was dirty and disgusting. I didn’t take a video because I just wanted to get out of there. I do, however, have photos of the pots and pans — they looked so dirty I questioned whether they’d ever been properly washed.

Shame on the owner for renting out such a poorly maintained, unhealthy property while charging such a high price. It felt like a scam. I am now trying to find the appropriate place to file a formal complaint regarding the condition of this rental and how it’s being managed.
