My husband and I made an appointment to renew our mortgage early and in person and the clerk did not file the paperwork so our mortgage switched to variable at 9.8% for a week. We had issues with incorrect information on the new paperwork sent and held off signing until it was corrected. We had the worst time getting ahold of anyone to have this amended and we were promised we would be compensated for the additional interest accrued. The clerk has since been ghosting us (I’ve emailed multiple times and been into the bank once with my two small children to reach him and he said he would email me). The bank manager originally denied any wrongdoing and now he is offering to “split the difference” for their mistake. We are being forced to make a formal complaint and it’s been three months of trying to receive compensation for the hundreds of dollars their mistake caused us. My husband took the day off work to do this in person. I’ve also gone in several times to switch all my accounts to being fee-free because we hold so many products with RBC and the clerks never seem to actually be able to do what they say they will.

Also, our financial advisor charged $150 to switch our children’s $600 RESP institutions without reaching out to let us know that the fees would be so extreme. Seems a bit crazy for someone who is actively managing your investments to not reach out when you will take a 25% loss on your investment. Please be wary of any “financial advisors” holding your investments and what their vested interests really are. We’ve since moved all our finances to an online bank which has been wonderful and has easy to access communication and 3.75% checking accounts. They also waived the fees for moving our RRSP over. We will switch our credit cards and mortgage as soon as possible.

I opened two bank accounts at RBC as this is the closest bank to me. While staff were friendly and helpful, the advisor whom I had an appt with had little knowledge on RESP account and I didn’t find her helpful. She could not answer questions I had, and eventually told me that she helped only one customer open their RESP account‍♀️Well…I was there with my husband as I was initially told that we could open a joint RESP account for our child. She could not add my husband’s name for some reason..She didn’t ask anyone for help, and just told me to open the account under my name. I did not want to spend more time there so I just went with it. When I asked why I had to put certain amount (about $500), in my newly opened account, she said that’s what all the major banks do. I’d expect better answer than that from a “financial advisor”..Anyway I am not going back to this location because of that staff member.

Been with RBC for years. Have all accounts and have had a pretty good relationship with them over the years. We have just moved to Sooke and my husband had a banking transaction and accidentally took my card to OUR JOINT ACCOUNT. He was scolded at the bank for this- fine, moving on. The teller also felt it was necessary to phone me and let me know not to do it again and to “slap my hand”.
I find this extremely condescending and unnecessary. I am not a child and our busy lives with young children cannot guarantee I will never accidentally take my husbands card again. So the point of the story is, if you have a busy life, make sure you never accidentally take your spouses card to the bank to access joint account OR don’t bank with RBC- at least in Sooke.

Don’t deal with Keely at the Sooke branch .
Forgets important details , doesn’t follow up with calls/ emails . Worst customer service I’ve had in 23 years with this branch .

Great place to leave your money.
I almost threw up in my mouth from the stench in the bank after what looked like a night of drug users smoking crack and partying in that ATM room.
