We were robbed our first day in Mexico. We tried to go through the police and they were no help. We had to go to the consular office for travel documents to return home. Irina was more helpful to us than anyone we contacted through the entire experience. I am SO thankful for her and her help! She made our scary situation so much better. 10/10 recommend!

Walked in at Monday opening after my passport was stolen. Very kind and efficient staff. I didn't dare to believe that they would provide an emergency replacement in 24 hours, but I got it and flew out the next day.

Their email autoresponse goes over the official documents, but you should also bring some cash in pesos to pay for overnight shipping after most of the paperwork - I forget how much, I think about $15 USD? (If you're able-bodied, the walk over to pay shipping is five minutes.) Also FYI on the passport photos: these are offered at photo studios, not the stores you might expect in the US.

(My experience was a few months ago, was just reminded how much I appreciated this office! I opted for this agency instead of Cancun because of the reviews... so leaving another to say, yeah, come here.)

Our valuables and our passports were stolen while on vacation. We were able to find the Consular because of the reviews with the directions. There was sign on the door that included an email that we used and received an automatic response that included our options along with what we need for to apply for emergency passports. We were first in line and we were walk-ins due to the nature of the event. Heather WAS SO HELPFUL. She gave us the directions we needed and accommodated our delivery request to another city. We were able to pick up our passports the next day before our flight. Can't thank her enough.

My mother-in-law needed a specific document as part of her immigration from the US to Mexico. The phone number provided on the website is for the Consulate in Merida, which oversees the offices in Cancun and Playa del Carmen, and the process of making an appointment can be a bit murky - but an email produced very quick and thorough results. Irina and Terri were as helpful as could be! Irina let us know exactly what we would need to bring so there was no need to make multiple trips. Living in Akumal as we do, it was wonderful not to have to drive all the way to Cancun (let alone Merida!) to get this necessary letter. Many thanks to Irina and Terri for their knowledge, professionalism, and kind approach.

The Google directions are good for getting to the building. Once you're there, if you park in the main lot at the front of the building along 50 Ave, the consular agency itself will be on the 2nd floor to the left (the same side as the bank.) Please note that the 2nd floor button in the elevator will take you to the top floor, while the consular agency is just one floor above ground level. 😉

The staff here are absolutely amazing. I had an unfortunate event happen while visiting playa del carmen where my belongings and passport were stolen. The agents at this consular were extremely helpful and efficient in getting me a temp passport and even went above and beyond helping me with directions on how to get a police report. I can’t say enough great things. Thank you to the staff here.

It was a good experience. We had to be there once and it was done in the same day. That’s how Mexican establishments should work. Everything should be done in the same day.
Happy that all the papers we had were enough to get the passport renovation.
UPS took some time to send us the passport but in the end it all turned out pretty well.

Note that sometime in early 2017 this consulate moved to the Ejido side of the carretera Sort of across from Sam's Club - the location shown on the map is now finally correct.

There is NO signage on the street or really even very noticeable on the building except for the Consulate sign (the Eagle in the circle) on the wall next to the door. It's easy to miss unless you know to on the second floor. Facing the building, the elevator is back in the left corner, and (the only) bathrooms back in the right corner down a hallway.

That said, the service I received here was fabulous, and the feedback I've heard about this office from other US expats is similar.

Note that as a tiny office, a good part of their stuff will get redirected to other (mostly Mexico City) offices. This is not saying they will tell you to go there, but rather that this office can facilitate getting things going then sending the remaining actionables to be done (not you when possible) on to the other offices.

My experience was nothing short of miraculous compared to other agencies I've dealt with--the service speedy and excellent and the agents kind, friendly, and not the least bit pretentious. I can't say enough good things about my experience here! Such a great place!
